The opera is based on the novel by Alberto Moravia, which inspired the celebrated 1960 film Two Women starring Sophia Loren, about a woman and her teenage daughter attempting to flee Rome during World War II. San Francisco Opera will present the world premiere of La Ciociara by Marco Tutino in June 2015.
